Meet Dr. David Uttal

I am a Professor of Psychology and Education at Northwestern University. Along with teaching, I lead a research laboratory of undergraduate, graduate students, and post-docs engaged in a wide range of experimental and observational studies focused on cognitive development. Our current interests include maps, symbolic representation, informal learning, & spatial thinking in STEM education. We are particularly interested in spatial thinking in STEM Education. We collaborate with researchers and practitioners including involvement with the Chicago Children’s Museum and the Spatial Intelligence and Learning Center, where I am a director. Our research occurs on the Northwestern Evanston Campus, in schools throughout Evanston and the Chicago area, at the Chicago Children’s Museum, and in collaboration with colleagues across the U.S.
